Progreso
Progreso is a Uruguayan wine-producing department west of Montevideo, historically one of the country's earliest viticultural settlements. Tannat, transplanted by Basque immigrants in the late 19th century, dominates alongside Merlot. The clay-loam soils and Atlantic-influenced climate produce structured, earthy reds with characteristic tannic grip — a more rustic counterpart to the coastal Maldonado style.
