Bricco delle Viole ('hilltop of violets') is the highest-altitude significant MGA in the Barolo commune, reaching 350–420 m on the steep south-to-southwest facing slopes above Barolo village. The extreme altitude delays ripening and intensifies aromatic complexity, with Tortonian Helvetian calcareous marl soils giving Nebbiolo of pronounced violet perfume (the vineyard's namesake), bright acidity, and refined tannic structure. G.D. Vajra's Barolo Bricco delle Viole is the defining bottling and gives the MGA its international reputation.
