Cannubi is the most celebrated named vineyard (MGA) in the Barolo DOCG, codified in 2007 on the gently south-southeast facing central slope of the Barolo commune at 230–280 m altitude. Soils are a distinctive Tortonian–Helvetian mix of calcareous marl (Saint Agatha Fossil Marl) that produces Nebbiolo of aromatic finesse and early elegance rather than the raw tannic power of Serralunga. The 2007 codification resolved the Cannubi hill into distinct sub-MGAs — Cannubi, Cannubi Boschis, Cannubi Muscatel, Cannubi San Lorenzo, and Cannubi Valletta — while retaining the umbrella 'Cannubi' labelling right for the full hill. Luciano Sandrone's Cannubi Boschis bottling (now labelled Aleste) and bottlings from Francesco Rinaldi and Brovia define the benchmark for this cru.
Elegant, perfumed Barolo; aromatic finesse over brute power
