British Columbia's wine regions span the Okanagan Valley desert, the cooler Similkameen, and coastal Gulf Islands. The Okanagan's long summer days and cool nights suit Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah in the south, with Riesling and Pinot Gris thriving further north. BC holds Canada's largest fine-wine concentration outside Niagara.
