Osaka
GI Osaka, granted in 2022, recognizes the winemaking tradition of Osaka Prefecture dating to the Meiji era. The Kashiwara area on the western slopes of the Ikoma mountains is the main vineyard zone. Katashimo Winery, established in 1914, is the historic anchor producer. Delaware and Muscat Bailey A are the dominant varieties, reflecting a warm humid climate. The GI has helped distinguish Osaka's wine identity from its broader reputation as a food and sake capital.
Approachable, fruit-forward wines in a warm-climate style
