Attica

Attica surrounds Athens and has been wine country since antiquity. The Mesogeia plain east of the capital is Savvatiano's heartland — the grape that made Retsina. Modern producers have shifted toward clean varietal Savvatiano and international blends, but Retsina from the Mesogeia remains a living link to the ancient practice of adding Aleppo pine resin to stabilise wine.
