Francia is an official 2007 Barolo MGA in Serralunga d'Alba, broadly south-facing at 270–330 m, inseparably associated with Giacomo Conterno whose Cascina Francia farm has defined this terroir for generations. Helvetian Serravallian marl soils give the Nebbiolo of Francia its characteristic density, mineral backbone, and enormous longevity — Conterno's Barolo Francia and the Monfortino Riserva (a selection from the estate) are among Italy's most collectible wines. The MGA name 'Francia' is the official codified toponym; Cascina Francia is the Conterno estate name, and Monfortino is a riserva selection — neither is a separate MGA.
Dense, mineral Barolo; extraordinary longevity, Giacomo Conterno benchmark
