Monvigliero is the flagship MGA of the Verduno commune, an east-to-south-facing hillside at 230–290 m that marks the northern extreme of the Barolo DOCG. The Tortonian Helvetian calcareous marl soils and the slightly cooler Verduno microclimate — the appellation's most northerly exposure — produce Nebbiolo of distinctive aromatic elegance, high-toned red fruit, and lifted floral character, typically lighter in body than Serralunga but intensely perfumed. Comm. G.B. Burlotto's whole-cluster foot-trodden Barolo Monvigliero is the defining reference; Castello di Verduno and Fratelli Alessandria are other benchmark Verduno estates.
