The designation that freed Tuscan winemakers from tradition. Super Tuscans — Cabernet, Merlot, and Sangiovese blends outside the DOC rules — use this classification. Sassicaia started it; Tignanello perfected it. IGT Toscana means ambition unconstrained by regulation.
