Bizeljsko-Sremič lies in eastern Slovenia near Brežice, straddling the Sotla river on the Croatian border, within the Posavje wine region. The district has two defining traditions: Bizeljčan, a light traditional field blend of red and white grapes; and traditional-method sparkling wine (penina) — pioneered here by producers such as Istenič, among Slovenia's oldest bottle-fermented sparkling. Still wines are light and food-friendly.
Two defining styles: the still Bizeljčan field blend and traditional-method sparkling wine (penina).
