Kras is Slovenia's karst plateau wine district, stretching from Sežana toward the Gulf of Trieste along the Italian border. Its iron-rich terra rossa soil sits over limestone bedrock, giving structure and dark color to its wines. Kras is the home of Teran, a protected traditional term (PTP) reserved for a high-acid red made from the Refošk grape grown on Kras terra rossa. Vitovska Grganja, an indigenous white grape, is also a local specialty.
Robust, high-acid reds built around the protected Teran designation.
