Prekmurje is Slovenia's northeasternmost wine district, lying east of the Mura river around the Goričko hills near the Hungarian and Austrian borders. Though grouped with Štajerska under the wider Podravje wine region, it is a distinct okoliš with its own character. Prekmurje's signature grape is Modra frankinja (Blaufränkisch), grown alongside the aromatic whites common across Podravje.
