Chapter 14

Keep your cellar safe

Your cellar lives on your device and is backed up automatically to your private iCloud account; you can also keep a copy as a file.

There is no vynr account. Your wines, tastings, journal and storage locations live on your device. vynr backs them up to your private iCloud account a few moments after each change, and only you can access that backup. Settings → Backup, in the Data section, shows its status and when it last ran.

On a new device, install vynr and open it. Before showing an empty cellar, vynr checks iCloud and restores yours. A backup made by a newer version of vynr asks you to update first.

A copy of your own. Export Cellar, on the same screen, saves your whole cellar as a .vynr file: wines, photos, tastings, collections and your journal. Restore from Backup replaces your entire cellar with a file's contents, and cannot be undone.

What leaves your device. AI Commentary and Refine Scans with AI are off until you turn them on in Settings → AI Features. AI Fix This and Cellar Health send a wine's label photo and details through vynr's own service, and only when you use them. Share Anonymous Usage Data, in Settings → Privacy, is off unless you turn it on. Assistant Link uploads a redacted, read-only copy of your cellar when you create a link and, while Keep my assistant up to date is on (it is on by default), again after each change to your cellar. Turn that off to publish by hand only; you can revoke the link at any time.

Deleting. Settings → Delete All Wine Data, in the Data section, removes your wines and saved label images from this device and from your iCloud backup. Your journal entries and storage locations stay. Deleting the app removes everything on the device; to stop backups as well, turn off iCloud for vynr in the iOS Settings app.
